THE IDEA: The founding of Uganda Alliance of Patient’s Organizations (UAPO),was initiated by Regina N.M Kamoga, the Country Manager of CHAIN and a board member of International Alliance of Patients Organizations (IAPO) (2005 – 2014). UAPO is a registered non-profit organization and is a unique civil society network leading the way to a Uganda free from preventable suffering, and death caused by poverty related and neglected diseases (communicable & non communicable diseases). With a strong National and community network of more than 10 organizations including;

  1. Community Health And Information Network – (CHAIN) Uganda
  2. Epilepsy Support Association of Uganda (ESAU)
  3. Sickle cell Association of Uganda
  4. Joyce Fertility Support Centre (JFSC)
  5. National Care Centre (NACARE), Uganda
  6. Sickle Cell Association of Uganda (SAU)
  7. The AIDS Support Organization (TASO)
  8. Uganda National Health Consumers/Users’ Organization (UNHCHO
  9. Action Group For Health, Human Rights and HIV/AIDS (AGHA) Uganda
  10. Uganda Women’s Cancer Support Organization (UWOCASO)

The network is in line with the International Alliance of Patient Organizations (IAPO) Regional Strategy for Africa whose aim is to strengthen the patient voice in Africa to contribute to the global patients’ voice; ensuring it accurately reflects the diverse needs and experiences of patients globally and is well communicated by:
a) Developing the capacity of patients’ organizations in the Africa region
b) Bringing together patient groups from across the region in an active and empowered network
c) Enabling patients’ organizations in Africa to communicate a strong unified voice on shared agendas.
